THR.COM – The Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Pluth song was previously honored with Golden Globe and Grammy nominations but missed out on an Oscar nom.
“See You Again,” the hit song and emotional Paul Walker tribute by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth on the Furious 7 soundtrack, was named best song at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday.
The win comes three days after the song was notably left out of the Oscar race as it failed to land a nomination.
The category was one of several that were not part of the live Critics’ Choice telecast and was revealed on Twitter by the awards’ official account before the show started.

The song beat out “Love Me Like You Do” from Fifty Shades of Grey, “Til It Happens to You” from The Hunting Ground, “One Kind of Love” from Love & Mercy, “Writing’s on the Wall” from Spectre and “Simple Song #3” from Youth.
This year’s Oscar mentions for best song include “Earned It” (Fifty Shades of Grey), “Manta Ray” (Racing Extinction), “Simple Song #3” (Youth), “Til It Happens to You” (The Hunting Ground) and “Writing’s on the Wall” (Spectre). The last hip-hop song to win the coveted golden statuette was Three 6 Mafia for “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp.
“See You Again” shattered records, proving that the Walker farewell song had gone mainstream and stuck with audiences. According to Billboard, “See You Again” is the first hip-hop video to hit one billion YouTube views and broke the Spotify record for most streams in a single day.
The tune has, however, received awards action elsewhere with one Golden Globe nomination and three Grammy nominations. The Roots’ Questlove tweeted his shock of the Oscar snub, writing, “I woulda bet the farm that @wizkhalifa was taking that statue home for “See You Again”. Guess they told me huh? #Oscars “
